Jörg G. Bucherer was born in Lucerne in 1936. In 1977, he took over the Bucherer Group as the third generation of the family. Under his leadership, the long-established Swiss family business, founded in 1888 by his grandfather Carl F. Bucherer, expanded internationally and established itself as a leading global retailer of luxury watches and jewellery. Innovations such as in-house movements and patented watch technologies shaped the brand.
Jörg G. Bucherer had no children. To ensure the continued existence of the Bucherer Group and its more than 2,400 jobs, he sold the company in August 2023. Shortly afterwards, on 6 November 2023, Jörg G. Bucherer passed away at the age of 87.
During his lifetime, Jörg G. Bucherer was committed to cultural causes, particularly classical music, and to tourism in Central Switzerland. It was his wish that his legacy be used for charitable purposes through the Jörg G. Bucherer-Foundation.
